If you are well prepared for the interview, your next priority is to come across
as motivated and interested. You may be inside your head but you need to ensure
that your body language reflects this. The way you interact, posture and
gesture will be providing your potential employer with an impression of you
that you will want to ensure is positive.
To begin with, be polite and friendly to everyone you meet. Always try to
retain good etiquette by greeting your interviewer by their last name and a
firm handshake. Wait until you are prompted to sit down, adopt a positive
posture, and look alert and interested at all times.
Never be afraid to ask the interviewer to repeat a question or to ask for time
to think about an answer. You should listen carefully to the interviewer and
answer succinctly and articulately whilst maintaining eye contact. Although you
should try to be succinct with your answers, you should be more explanatory
than yes or no.
Try not to be overly critical or personal of your current employers. Your
rationale for leaving should appear to be professional. Do not enquire about
salary details at the first interview. If you have been put forward by an
agency they should furnish you with that information.
